[The Desert City]

kitesurfing beach Dakhla Lagoon

The ultimate flat water experience for kitesurf addicts!

Dakhla is a coastal city located at the West-end of the Sahara next to the Atlantic Ocean. It's known for its stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, and excellent conditions for watersports. The city is located on the extreme of a peninsula that runs south from the mainland, creating an approximately 40 km long lagoon that is popular for kite surfing and wildlife. From April to September, the wind probability is between 80% and 100%, while from October to March, it is between 55% and 75%.

The true desert experience

If you’re looking for a pure sport holiday mixed with the true desert experience, Dakhla is the perfect destination for you. The city is surrounded by vast expanses of sand dunes and rocky terrain, making it an ideal location for desert safaris, camel rides, and other outdoor adventures. Visitors can explore the nearby attractions such as the ancient city of Awdaghast and the Ksar of Oulad Abdelhalim.

Where to stay around Dakhla?

There are various accommodation options in Dakhla that offer breathtaking views of the lagoon. The different hotels are mainly camps that offer bungalows with basic to luxurious interiors. Since you will most likely spend the whole day within the camp, they take care of breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as your watersport experience and evening entertainment. Almost everybody speaks here besides Arabic and French as well English.

Of course, you can also opt for the more economical option and rent accommodation in Dakhla directly. We pick up our clients to go together to the best kitesurfing spot according to the conditions. Independent riders can rent a car from €25/day to be fully flexible and choose between the different kite spots. Here it is more difficult to find locals who speak English but it's possible.

Where to kitesurf in Dakhla?

The sprawling Dakhla Lagoon stretches over 40 kilometers and is indisputably the star attraction for kitesurfing in Dakhla. Here you experience flat water and north wind most of the time of the year.

The Speed Spot is the location for winter when the East wind blows. Most of the hotels offer several times a day a transfer to the Speed Spot to make sure their clients can also kitesurf over the winter months.

Pointe De L’Or is the spot for wave-riding enthusiasts seeking to quench their thirst for adrenaline.

Lassarga is a new spot and the closest one to city of Dakhla. Here the wind blows usually off-shore or side-off shore with safety boats closeby. What's special here: you can kitesurf and surf. The waves run parallel to the beach what allows to spend a lot of time on the board and walk back instead of paddling a long time.

A scenic kitesurfing experience is the White Dune with its flat water. But be aware of the right timing - only with high tide you can kitesurf there! You can reach it after a 20km downwind from the Lagoon. There are many possibilities for the transfer back to your accommodation.
